The Catholic Schools at that time were owned by the church but received grants from the Education Authority. They were subject to inspection by the authorities and teacher training was very demanding and it was difficult for many would be teachers to reach the required standard. The parish priest, Fr. Daniel Collins, was the school manager, paid the teacher's wages from the quarterly collection and maintained the building.
